I have begun work on a course which I plan to offer via Udemy.com, titled “Jazz for the Rock Guitarist.” If you know any guitarists who are fairly skilled rock performers but wish to explore jazz, this is exactly who I’m hoping to reach. I particularly would like to see high school and college directors recommend this course to guitarists in their jazz ensembles who might benefit from some tutoring in jazz and big band styles.
The course will consist of roughly 40 lectures, covering the following topics:
- What distinguishes the jazz sound.
- Chord construction.
- Reading lead sheets and band arrangements.
- Improvisation basics.
- Resources for further study.
I expect to launch the course by the end of February 2016. I will post updates to this site along the way.
What might you hope to get out of this course? Is there anything you feel would be important to include? If you have questions or suggestions, please let me know.
