Peter Rose, The Pressures of the Text

When I was an undergrad, I came across this video piece that was submitted to the American Composers’ Forum annual Sonic Circuits series.

Pressures of the Text by Peter Rose is a monologue that begins as a lecture, but gradually disintegrates into stuttering nonsense, then transitions into an attempt to communicate in an invented language. After further transformation, we are left with some questions about the structure and purpose of language itself.
